What this site is, who built it, what’s real, and what a site like it costs to run.
What it is
This is a working demonstration of a membership website for a fictional organisation, the Association of Air Quality Monitoring Networks. It was built by Association Websites to show associations, societies and charities what a WordPress and MembershipWorks site can do for them, and how it looks when it is set up around a real membership structure.
What’s real and what isn’t
- Real: the software (WordPress and MembershipWorks), the joining form, the directories, the event listings, the members-only pages, the renewal and welcome emails, and the admin set-up behind them (see the tour of the admin).
- Fictional: the Association, its members, people, towns, address, phone number, events, prices and documents. Any resemblance to a real person or organisation is accidental. Email addresses use domains reserved for examples, so nothing is sent to anyone.
- Switched off here: card payments, event booking and group sign-up. They need a paid payment gateway or a paid MembershipWorks plan, which a demo doesn’t need. On a live site they are switched on.

This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and is checked as each page is made. If something doesn’t work for you, please tell us.
Privacy and cookies
If you ask for demo access, the details you give go by email to Association Websites and are used only to reply to you and send you the demo sign-in. We don’t create an account in your name: everyone uses the same demo sign-in, which we change from time to time. We delete your request within three months. Member and account data on this demo is held by MembershipWorks (a US company) under a data processing agreement and the UK International Data Transfer Agreement.
The site is set up to use only the cookies it needs to work: one to keep you signed in to the demo, and WordPress’s own cookies if you sign in to the website itself. There are no advertising or tracking cookies. See the Association Websites privacy policy for more.
Who built it
Gareth Wyn Davies, trading as Association Websites. Gareth ran a membership organisation for over a decade, including its online membership system, before setting up Association Websites. associationwebsites.uk
